I originally picked this up because it was on sale for cheap and was about a girl in Japan (one of my favorite places), so I was feeling nostalgic going into this. It is not at all what I expected.

This was a pretty good start to a series, I just had a few minor problems but look forward to continuing eventually with Volume 2.

This really upsets me because I expected to enjoy this. I thought that the idea behind the book was great, but it was not executed properly. I've also heard that Red Rising is pretty much the same concept, so I'm hoping that it will be a better experience.

I'm not sure that I can even give this one a star rating because it's still unclear how I feel about it.

 

I feel like this book should have been the epitome of Contemporary, and the beginning absolutely was, but the ending just confused the crap out of me and was more like a psychological thriller? Weird mix.

First, I have to admit that I was a bit cautious going into this one. I am not married, nor am I a man, so I didn't think that I was going to relate to much. I have to say that this was much more entertaining than I thought if you want to pick up something silly about marriage or relationships in general.

 

This book is not for someone who easily takes offense at stereotypical marriages or gender roles, but honestly, I didn't see any offense in the author's quick wit and fun perspective of a wife that he clearly adores. Obviously not all men or all women are the same so there are going to be different experiences, but I was laughing out loud with some of the things that I saw in myself or even that I disagreed with. I want to thank the author for the shout out to women in the beginning of the book and appreciating what women go through on the daily.

How entertaining was this?! It reminded me a lot of Daughter of Smoke and Bone, but without Laini Taylor's amazing prose and with a lot more action.

I was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. Even though everyone's always said 'don't judge a book by the cover', it's hard not to. I saw the cover on the right and assumed this was just going to be strictly romance with pretty much no plot or other characters but I was wrong. And I'm glad I was.
